Some of you just don’t want to do the research yourself to figure out the top home based businesses to start today. So, I guess, I’ll have to get you started.

- First rule: Don’t go to the internet and type “home based business” and take what ever is dished out. I think you might stumble into a home based business rip-off.

- Second rule: Go to the internet and type “home based business trends” and study up to 20 sites that come up. After looking at several sites you will actually get a jump start on the current trends. I’m going to list businesses that make sense in the year 2005, but I want you to be able to think your way through finding a good business in 2010 assuming this article is still floating around. Today the best business might be cleaning services but in 2010 they might be flying car-car washes. I know I can’t tell you what the trend will be in 2010 but the same procedure for finding the best business that works today will work in 2010.

- Third rule: Become more aware of what’s going on around you. Notice what people need or want.

- Fourth rule: Talk to a lot of people about what they are looking for. Right now people are so busy, or lazy, they don’t have time to clean their homes so they are willing to pay people to do it for them. There are several very successful cleaning businesses in our town and room for more.

- More fourth rule: Talk to some more people about what they are looking for. Can you believe how many lawn mowing services there are? Do you think they are successful? I’ve talked to several lawn service owners, big and small, and they are all meeting there business goals.

- Fifth rule: Read, read some more, and then read even more. Be informed. Read the paper. Read the internet. Get on a mailing list of companies that specialize in trend analysis. Look for magazines that have articles about the current business trends.

I still haven’t given you that list. I just can’t help myself. I really want you to figure out for yourself what is the best home business for you. I went through several before I found something I loved and then I actually started making money. And I know some of you want me to tell you exactly what it was. But, that probably won’t help you. In fact, it might not even be making me money by the time you read this article. Thinking will help you make money.
